Principal Medical Writer

We're looking for an accomplished Principal Medical Writer who is ready to take on a leadership role in a fast-paced agency environment. Key details
Salary: £55-65k depending on experience
Eligibility: UK citizen or resident with the right to work in the UK
Contract: Permanent
Benefits: Flexible and competitive package, to be discussed during interview
Start date: ASAP
Location: Primarily remote, with availability to travel within the UK and internationally
Hours: Full-time, 36 hours Monday to Friday with flexible working practices. Other options may be possible; for discussion during recruitment process
Core responsibilities
  • Exhibit exceptional strategic understanding of data and client goals

  • Provide strategic direction and oversight for complex writing projects across a range of programmes/accounts

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and share insights with the wider team to drive continuous improvement and innovation

  • Lead and inspire writing teams to deliver exceptional work, on time and on budget

  • Help organise team configuration, highlighting skill needs and resource gaps

  • Provide mentorship, training and professional development opportunities for junior team members

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, providing strategic counsel and thought leadership to drive innovation and maximise impact

  • Contribute to new business development by identifying opportunities, developing proposals, and leading pitch teams

  • Contribute to business development activities, including supporting the development of proposals and pitches

  • Collaborate with senior leadership to set and achieve account goals and drive organic growth with existing clients

  • Develop and implement best practices and processes to ensure consistency, efficiency and scientific rigour across all content

Experience and knowledge
  • At least 5 years working in a medical communication agency or similar environment

  • Proven track record of leading successful writing teams and delivering large, complex projects

  • Extensive experience across a wide range of project types, therapy areas and geographic regions

  • Deep understanding of key industry codes of practice and the global healthcare landscape

  • Exceptional knowledge of best practices in writing, editing and quality control

  • No formal requirements for academic qualifications
